Toronto Artist Scene this week headed west and found a new band in the vibrant city of Hamilton, Ontario, a fresh musical duo. Which is now captivating audiences and gaining momentum as you're reading about them now. The band is called KTxKP—comprised of the dynamic pair Ktriggs and Kristen Prince—and emerged on the music scene after their first performance together in 2021 at "905 Fest." Since then, their latest single, "Write This Down," has gained noteworthy attention, establishing them to grow exponentially within the local music landscape. KTxKP is an exciting new presence in the Hamilton music scene, showcasing the remarkable potential of collaboration and artistic expression. With "Write This Down," they have begun to connect with an audience hungry for authentic sound. Recently, I had the chance to talk with Ktriggs and Kristen to explore their journey, creative process, and the enthusiastic response surrounding their new track.

The Formation of KTxKP

How did KTxKP come together, and what is the background story of its members?

"KTxKP is Ktriggs & Kristen Prince. We've been working together since 2021, when I (KP) performed at 905 Fest for the first time. That day, I ended up helping out with the PA setup, and have been the stage manager for 905 Fest ever since. In 2022, we put out our first song together, “Dancing with the Dragon,” as part of a Ktriggs project. But it wasn't until late 2023 that we decided to officially collaborate on a musical project. Our first single as a duo, “Bad Dream,” came out in November 2024. Since then, we've put out a total of three singles with lyric videos, and we recently launched our first music video for the song “Write This Down.”

The Journey to "Write This Down"

The songs and lyrics are uplifting and inspiring and sometimes a deeper sense of life's reality. How did you come up with these fresh vibes?

I was supposed to be on a tour, but I got pretty sick and ended up staying at home for two weeks, that's when I started working on a lot of new ideas for the track, and was sending them to Ktriggs. “I’m writing!” was his response. That's how most of our songs start - I'll make an instrumental track of some sort (sometimes with a vocal hook, or sometimes that comes later), and then Ktriggs will come up with a lyrical idea/the emotional tone of the track, and we proceed from there.

Ktriggs and I have very different backgrounds, in our lives and musically, I think that's what gives us our sound. I grew up taking music lessons and graduated from jazz school, while Ktriggs grew up on hip hop and graduated from an entertainment management program. It’s a great combination, and we’re always learning so much from each other.

Review and thoughts of their Newest Single.

The Sound of KTxKP

Musically, KTxKP’s fusion of various genres sets them apart. They draw inspiration from within the musical range of hip hop and jazz. Not only does it showcase their talent and versatility, but it also broadens their appeal to a wider audience. One can only predict or expect to hear it on the radio or be featured in a movie. This band is worth listening to and watching out for.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many listeners noting the fresh quality of their music. This motivates KTxKP to continue exploring and challenging themselves.

In a web portal, KTxKP is described as

"The duo of Ktriggs and Kristen Prince brings two sounds together to create a brand new fusion of hip-hop and jazz. Through the use of saxophone, guitar and live vocals, Kristen Prince has an alternative indie style that meshes effortlessly with the powerful songwriting capabilities of Ktriggs. Both Ktriggs and Kristen Prince are no strangers to the art of improvisation.

Their live performance contains freestyle jams as well as cover songs with the their own personal twist."
